Guwahati (Assam) [India], June 30 (ANI): The water level of the Brahmaputra River has been increasing following torrential rain in many parts of Assam and neighbouring states in the past couple of days.

According to the flood report of Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), nearly 1.34 lakh people including 33760 children of 7 districts of the state - Kamrup, Karimganj, Dhemaji, Dibrugarh, Cachar, Tinsukia, Lakhimpur, have affected in the deluge.

The flood waters have also submerged 4113.27 hectares of crop area, and 411 villages under 17 revenue circles.

67,030 people have been affected alone in Cachar district followed by 27,235 people in Karimganj district, 25,947 people in Dhemaji, 9868 people in Tinsukia, and 3857 people in Dibrugarh district.

The Assam State Disaster Management Authority said that this year's flood has so far claimed 32 lives across the state.

More than 11,000 people are taking shelter in relief camps and relief distribution centres and the administration in different flood-hit districts has set up 71 relief camps and relief distribution centres.

Cyclone Remal has brought about intense rainfall in Assam, leading to widespread flooding.

14 districts and 309 villages have been affected due to the floods with Karimganj being the worst affected, as per the Assam State Disaster Management Authority.

Moderate rain is very likely to occur at most places over Assam for the next few days, as per the official report by the India Meteorological Department.

IMD has issued a red alert for the first two days in July. Thunderstorms and lightning.
