Peace with Russia is impossible

Peace with Russia is impossible

A former British Army general has warned the West that a potential victory for Vladimir Putin in Ukraine would be a disaster.

General Sir Patrick Sanders, who served as Chief of the General Staff from 2022 to 2024, emphasized the critical importance of a Ukrainian victory to uphold the existing world order.

Speaking on an episode of Ukraincast aired on the BBC, the retired general discussed the future of Russia without Vladimir Putin.

"We've now got these great powers, this axis of powers, trying to overturn a world order, and I don't think peace with Russia is possible," he said.

"Russia sees itself in an existential conflict with the West ... I think Putin is a product of Russian strategic culture; he's not the architect of it. And whatever follows Putin, we should assume will be just as difficult. Not necessarily as powerful, but just as difficult," he added.

Sir Patrick Sanders’ comments come as Ukraine now faces an additional challenge against North Korean forces.

Last week, Ukraine, South Korea, and the United States reported that 3,000 North Korean troops had been sent to Russia for training before joining the Ukrainian front.

South Korea is seriously considering providing defensive military aid to Kyiv, and depending on the conflict’s progression, it might also send lethal weaponry.

According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, the first North Korean battalions are expected to be on the ground between Sunday and Monday.
