Survivor remembers what 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami felt like

If I had been hit by a bus or a car, it was just like it was. It was like a massive thump and then that was it. I don't like opening my eyes underwater, even now when I was fresh watering. So I remember clenching my eyes. But then everything, your ears, your mouth, your nose is full of all, like it's dirt and silt and everything and it didn't taste nice. And then the sound is just and it's just that feel. It felt like being in a washing machine with the contents of any kind of room, whether it was chairs or stools or bits of twig. It wasn't like being in water. It was just like being bashed and kicked and hit. And you were just, I got washed along. And I remember getting washed into the area where there's a big hole with the stage at the end where I ended up. But I remember there's about four or five steps up into that hole. And I just remember, I distinctly remember I was like in the fetal position huddled in like that, just trying to hold my breath. And I remember hitting every one of them steps on the way up, just thinking, oh, and then that's, that's going to hurt in the morning sort of thing. And then, and I ended up in a, in a big pile of chairs in the corner of the room where the water had rushed in and all the chairs had moved. And then a bit like, you know, a sieve or keplunk, the chairs had all knitted together. And then the water flushed out past the chairs and everything was stuck in the chairs.
