Trump will have to return to court after his term

New York justice will be patient. In the Stormy Daniels case for which Donald Trump has been indicted, there will be no total immunity. The verdict has been postponed and it will probably take another 4 years.

At the beginning of 2029, Donald Trump will - in principle - no longer be President of the United States. From then on, his immunity will disappear when he hands over the keys of the White House to the person who will take his place. This will undoubtedly be before the New York courts, where he was found guilty on 34 counts last spring. In fact, the verdict is still pending. It should have been handed down on November 26, 2024, but the new status of the “lone warrior” means that it has to be postponed. All the more so as his defense has launched an appeal. The deadline for the hearing has been set for December 9. This makes it difficult to reach a verdict before... 2029.

No blank check

Donald Trump was no doubt hoping to be absolved of any prosecution for falsifying documents and witness intimidation in the Stormy Daniels affair. Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg decided otherwise. Postponement after postponement, the case remains pending. Given the election results, Donald Trump is de facto “untouchable” until January 2029. But when he can once again become a private citizen at the age of 82, the justice system will then have the opportunity to restart its repressive machine. And in its long arm wrestle, will it succeed in sending Trump behind bars in 5 years, later or never?
