For many Brits choosing to relocate abroad, doing so can be as stressful an experience as it can be an exciting one.

While there is the opportunity to start a new chapter in your life, there comes the unknown quantity of having to adjust to different surroundings while potentially having to learn a new language.

Add to that the often-tricky scenario of having to sort finances and residency in a new country - and it suddenly might not seem like such a thrilling experience.

Fortunately, relocation experts have shared the three most important tips you need to tick off your checklist before moving abroad.

Experts at 1st Move International have created an interactive list specifically designed for those preparing to move abroad from the UK.

They broke down essential tasks into manageable timelines spanning two months, one month, and the week leading up to the move.

Sharing the tasks you need to complete at least two months before you move, Mike Harvey, managing director at 1st Move International, said: 'Preparing your legal documents is the most important step that should be completed largely in advance.'

'Ensure your passports are valid and obtain the necessary visas or permits, as well as setting up international transfers with your bank, updating your health, home, and car insurance for your new location.'

The relocation guru also said you should take care to finalise your moving details by confirming dates with your moving company, completing a valued inventory, and submitting your insurance form.

Around this time, you should also settle your financial obligations by paying off regular bills, loans, and other commitments, reviewing your credit cards for international usability, and notifying institutions of your upcoming move.

Finally, one week before moving, you should remember to confirm your travel plans and local arrangements by reviewing airline tickets and accommodation bookings and notifying your local council and electoral roll about your move.

You should also be adequately prepared for the journey by withdrawing sufficient cash for travel expenses and charging all necessary electronics.

This is also the time you want to cancel any newspapers, food subscriptions, and other regular deliveries.

Commenting on relocating abroad, Mr Harvey added: 'Before moving, it's crucial to take several important steps to ensure that relocating overseas goes as smoothly as possible.

'This is a long process and should begin at least 2 months prior to your departure.

'Financial arrangements should be made well in advance, such as informing banks and credit card companies of the relocation to prevent any issues with accessing funds while overseas.

'It's also vital to settle any outstanding bills and redirect mail to a designated address to avoid missed correspondence.'
