Hanoi: the charm of the thousand-year-old capital

The capital of Vietnam, Hanoi, is a city where history harmoniously blends with modernity. Founded over 1,000 years ago, it is filled with architectural and cultural treasures. The Old District, with its narrow streets and French colonial buildings, is a journey back in time. Here, you can wander between craft shops, street food stalls and ancestral pagodas.

Among the city’s must-sees is Hoan Kiem lake, a peaceful gem in the heart of Hanoi’s hustle and bustle. Hanoians go there to relax, practise tai chi or simply enjoy the view of the Turtle Tower. Not far away, the Temple of Literature, dedicated to Confucius, is another symbol of the city. Built in 1070, it was the country’s first university and remains a place of meditation for the Vietnamese.

Hoi An: the city of lanterns and heritage

Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Hoi An is undoubtedly one of Vietnam’s most picturesque towns. Originally a port town, Hoi An has retained its original charm, with its traditional yellow-fronted houses and cobbled streets. At night, the town is illuminated by a thousand colourful lanterns, creating a magical atmosphere that visitors particularly enjoy.

Hoi An is also renowned for its tailors, who can design custom-made clothes in record time, as well as for its culinary scene. Indeed, the local market is full of tasty specialities such as Cao Lau or White Rose Dumplings.

Hue: the former imperial capital

Located in the centre of the country, Hue is the former imperial capital of Vietnam and thus a major centre of the country’s history. The Imperial City, with its palaces, temples and gardens, bears witness to the glorious pasty of the Nguyen dynasty. This vast complex surrounded by moats and imposing ramparts is a true architectural marvel.

The city is also popular for its royal tombs, scattered along the Perfume River. These funerary monuments, such as the tomb of the emperor Tu Duc, are true works of art with magnificent details. The city of Hue is also renowned for its refined and subtle imperial cuisine, which can be found in many traditional restaurants here.

Sapa: a paradise made of mountains and rice terraces

Hidden away in the mountains of the north-west, Sapa is a small village surrounded by rice terraces, deep valleys and majestic peaks. Inhabited by ethnic minorities such as the Hmong and the Dao, this place is popular and renowned for the beauty of its landscapes et for its colourful markets where visitors can discover local handicrafts.

It comes as no surprise that hikers flock to Sapa to explore the trails that wind through the rice paddies, with Mount Fansipan, Vietnam’s highest peak, as a backdrop. A hike in the surrounding area allows them to discover traditional villages, observe the daily life of the inhabitants and immerse themselves in the local culture. The best time to visit Sapa is during the harvest season, when the rice fields take on golden hues, offering unforgettable memories.

Da Nang: between sea and mountains

Located between Hue and Hoi An, Da Nang is a dynamic city that is attracting more and more visitors year after year. This coastal city is bordered by long sandy beaches, including the famous My Khe beach, perfect for swimming and practicing water sports. But Da Nang is not a regular seaside town, it is also surrounded by spectacular mountains, especially the Marble Mountains, a group of five limestone hills sheltering caves and Buddhist sanctuaries.

Da Nang is also famous for the Golden Bridge, a fascinating structure located in the Ba Na Hills park, a few kilometres from the city. This bridge, held up by two gigantic stone hands, offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the surrounding mountains and has become one of Vietnam’s most photographed landmarks.
