NewsThe 4-7-8 Method Could Help You Sleep
For some people, falling asleep or coming down from anxiety feels impossible. But some experts believe simply counting 4-7-8 might just do the trick. The 4-7-8 technique is a relaxation exercise in which you breathe in for 4 counts, hold for 7 counts and exhale for 8 counts. Also known as the “relaxing breath,” 4-7-8 has ancient roots in pranayama, which is the yogic practice of breath regulation. Exercises like the 4-7-8 technique give you the opportunity to practice being at peace. And that’s exactly what we need to do before we go to bed, Rebecca Robbins, instructor in medicine at Harvard Medical School. While this method doesn't ‘put you to sleep,’ it may reduce anxiety to increase the likelihood of falling asleep. The 4-7-8 breathing practice can help activate your parasympathetic nervous system. This in turn puts the body in a state more conducive to restful sleep. The more you practice the 4-7-8 technique, the better you’ll become, and the more you use it to manage stress.
NewsHow Scientists Say You Should Put A Crying Baby To Sleep
Researchers claim that they have found the perfect way to put a crying baby to sleep. Here’s how it works: Walk your baby for at least 5 minutes with no sudden movements, at which time they will be calm, if not asleep. Then sit and hold the baby for another 8 minutes before transferring them to a crib. According to the researchers, placing the child in the bed without first sitting quietly for a full 8 minutes ended in tears. Although we did not predict it, the key parameter for successful laydown of sleeping infants was the delay from sleep onset, Dr. Kumi Kuroda, study coauthor. However, timing guidelines might be helpful for some parents, but won’t necessarily work for everyone. Additionally, experts argue that parents shouldn’t use this technique regularly if a baby can fall asleep on their own. The goal should be to make sure the baby is getting good sleep using this technique while eventually encouraging them to fall asleep on their own, Dr. Jennifer Shu, pediatrician.
NewsHow To Transition Your Skincare Routine From Summer To Fall
As we transition from summer to fall and the weather starts to change so should our skincare routines. Here are four easy ways to transition your skincare routine from summer to fall: 1. Add extra hydration. You should extra hydration to your routine in the fall as the weather is colder which increases your chances of getting dry skin. This can be done by switching to a thicker moisturizer or by using hyaluronic acid before you moisturize. Don’t forget to moisturize your body too! 2. Exfoliate less frequently. It’s best to cut back on how often you use exfoliating products like retinoids or glycolic acid as it’s very easy to overuse them. Over-exfoliating can cause tiny cracks in the skin barrier which will lead to hydration loss and inflammation. 3. Continue using SPF. Although UV radiation is greater in the summer it’s still present in the fall so you should continue to apply SPF every day. 4. Consider getting a humidifier. Humidifiers add moisture to the air and experts recommend using them in the fall to ensure your skin stays hydrated.

But in reality it has received a type certificate, a production certificate and a standard airworthiness certificate from China’s civil aviation authority, which means it’s ready for mass production, and we might be seeing this type of aircraft flying regularly in the sky in the near future." [Voice_over] It’s the first pilotless electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft to have received these safety certificates. It may look like something far from our daily lives right now, but its producer from Guangzhou believes similar aircraft are destined for mass use… and that it won’t be long before they are common. We already have the flying vehicles, and large corporations and governments are also advancing the building of take-off and landing points." [Sound_bite] Li Manjia, Science and Technology Innovation and Industry Development Bureau, Zhuhai Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone: "Our policy objective is centered around future output targets. NewsThe greatest sibling rivalries of all time
Since the days of Cain and Abel, sibling rivalry has been a favorite trope used by artists in both literature and film. For instance, a prominent theme of Shakespeare's 'King Lear' is the fierce competition between the three daughters, and adaptations of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's 'Sherlock Holmes' often portray high levels of competition between the detective and his brother. But ask anyone with a brother or sister and they'll tell you that sibling rivalry also exists in real life. Feelings of competitiveness are particularly common in siblings who are close in age or particularly gifted and talented. It comes as no surprise, then, that some of the world's most successful artists, businessmen, and intellectuals are at loggerheads with their siblings. Check out this gallery to explore some of the most famous sibling rivalries of all time.
