NewsNorfolk farmhouse teetering on cliff edge demolished amid coastal erosion
Footage shows the demolition of an 18th-century farmhouse that was teetering on a cliff edge following years of coastal erosion in Norfolk, England. The Cliff Farm property was torn down by contractors using a wrecking machine in the village of Trimingham on May 9. Officials said the home had been hanging over the cliff edge for a month due to coastal erosion dragging chunks into the sea. The owners bought the property in 2019 for 132,000 GBP but left several months ago when it became unsafe. Harry Blathwayt, North Norfolk District Council's portfolio holder for the coast, said: 'The owner of the property is obviously very upset to be losing his house. It's a difficult time for him. 'He had hopes to see out a happy retirement in a beautiful position and that's been taken away from him.' The council worker said heavy rain and storms in the previous months during the winter had contributed to the instability of the cliff and hastened the demise of the home. Staff are working on protecting several other homes along the coastline to try and prevent more from being demolished.
