The SNP's Westminster leader gleefully celebrated England's battling Euros defeat last night.

Stephen Flynn boasted that Scotland had been the only team to beat Spain during qualifying for the tournament as he posted a photo of himself in a kilt mocking weeping fans.

The post showing Mr Flynn alongside Spanish football shirts described midfielder Rodri as 'bro', adding: 'All is forgiven.'

The Scottish independence campaigner has previously said he had supported seven different teams in the competition - in a reference to England's opponents.

The message drew an angry response on X, with users pointing out that Scotland crashed out at the group stages after failing to win a match and being thrashed by Germany.

Others hit back with images of SNP politicians crying as they suffered an election meltdown earlier this month.

England fans had packed into bars and pubs in the hope of seeing the team finally claim their first major tournament since the World Cup of 1966.

But Gareth Southgate's men were unable to make history as they lost 2-1 in Berlin, having also narrowly missed out in the Euro 2020 final.

The winner was scored just minutes before full-time, with England having a last-ditch chance cleared off the line.

On the pitch, goalkeeper Jordan Pickford and Cole Palmer were left holding their heads in their hands, while a distraught Jude Bellingham was comforted by Southgate after collapsing to the floor.

Players were also consoled by their friends and families in the stands, with Ollie Watkins crying as he hugged his girlfriend Ellie Anderson, while Luke Shaw looked dejected as he wrapped himself in a hoodie.

The defeat left Prince William and Prince George visibly stunned, with the Prince of Wales seen consoling England's dejected skipper, Harry Kane - as King Charles urged the squad to 'hold your heads high' and hailed them the 'pride of a nation'.
