We rode Disney World's new attraction Tiana's Bayou Adventure before it opened to the public, here's our verdict We rode Disney World's new attraction Tiana's Bayou Adventure

  • Molly and Alan McCormack ventured to Florida's Walt Disney World
  • They tested out Tiana's Bayou Adventure, which opens June 28
  • It replaced the much-loved Splash Mountain ride, which some deemed racist

Hardcore Disney fans have offered their verdict on the park's new Tiana-themed log flume ride before it officially opens to the public later this month.

Molly and Alan McCormack, who run the YouTube channel Mammoth Club with their cohost Max La Due, ventured to Walt Disney World in Florida to test out Tiana's Bayou Adventure.

The ride, which updates Tiana's storyline from the 2009 animated film The Princess and the Frog, occupies a space where Splash Mountain once stood.

Some Disney fans see it as a fitting replacement to its predecessor, which was themed to the 1946 Disney movie Song of the South. The film was filled with racist clichés about African Americans and plantation life.

Molly and Alan state in their YouTube review that while Splash Mountain was also beloved by many and carried memories considering it was installed in 1989, the new, upgraded attraction centered around Disney's first black princess ticks many boxes.

After giving the water ride a whirl, Molly says: 'Regardless of how you may feel about Splash Mountain everyone did not feel welcome.

'[Tiana's Bayou Adventure]... was such a joyous and beautiful ride. The colors are amazing, the animatronics are amazing.

'It still feels like a classic nostalgic ride... it weirdly feels like Splash Mountain but it's better now.'

In their YouTube video, Molly and Alan give viewers a tour of the ride - which opens on June 28 - from start to finish.

In one scene, they check out the gift store and showcase some of the products on offer.

Some of the standout items include jewelry, hot sauce made by a famed New Orleans chef and a $15,000 painting of The Princess and the Frog cast completed by a local Louisiana artist.

In another part of the YouTube tour, the couple showcase the greenery outside the ride, with a lily pond, a small community farm, mature plants and swamp trees to set the scene.

Returning to the ride, Molly and Alan explain that it is the same as Splash Mountain 'in terms of the 50ft drop and the log flume vehicles that you're taking but it has an all new story revolving around Princess Tiana.'

'Tiana's Bayou Adventure takes place after the events of The Princess and the Frog... and Tiana, she's doing well,' Alan said.

As they move through some of the various sets before going to queue for the ride, the couple are clearly blown away by the attention to detail, with thought going into each item.

At one point they point out a framed letter on the wall of Tiana's office written by Prince Naveen, while in another room they find themed posters and photos of Tiana's family.

During the video tour, one of the Disney 'imagineers' and assistant construction managers called Addison gives Molly and Alan a lowdown of the ride.

He explains: 'I think you're going to find that there's been a significant amount of change because it's an entirely new story here at Tiana's.

'It's the same shell but it's a whole new venue and an entirely new application for the place itself.

'We're here actually in the exterior gardensfor Tiana's Co-op and that's the Tiana Foods company so they grow their own food here, they process and ship it.

'As you'll experience going through the queue, and then as you descend into the salt mine, which was purchased by Tiana's Foods Co-op, you get to go along on a journey to help Tiana find one last missing ingredient for their big celebration to ring in Mardi Gras.

'My absolute favorite part without a doubt is when you've gone down the first drop and you first enter the Bayou.

'You'll see everybody's favorite alligator Lewis trying to tell you about something that's right around the corner and as soon as you go around that corner, it's just an absolute stunning showcase of all the new technology we've got.'

After trying out the ride for themselves Molly and Alan, give it a rave review.

Molly concludes: 'Go into this one with an open mind. It very often happens that whenthere is change or an attraction is replaced or reimagined people go into it because they love the predecessor they go in negatively here.

'So, even if Splash was your favorite ride, even if you have a lot of nostalgia for that ride or classic family memories... don't hold that against Princess Tiana.

'You can havefond memories for Splash and also be excited and embrace what I think is a very good attraction.

'I think the music is wonderful, the animatronics are amazing, it's colorful and this reimagining has breathed in much needed new life into this space.'

The YouTube creators also advise park-goers to ride the log flume 'multiple times to really fully understand all the details,' and to save time in the queue to opt for Lightning Lane expedited passes.
