“Severe blow for Putin”
On X (former Twitter), EU's top diplomat,Josep Borrel, declared that the Kremlin leader’s propaganda had just taken a 'severe blow'.
Why? Ukraine's surprise offensive on Russian soil, and more precisely in Kursk. In addition to that, Josep Borrel stressed that the Ukrainian forces were, thanks to the lifting of restrictions on the use of weapons supplied by the West, able to strengthen their defense and 'save lives'.
And if Ukraine's surprise attack on Russian territory, launched two weeks ago, attracted the attention of Russian troops towards Kursk, it did not, however, move the epicenter of the fighting, which remains in the east of Ukraine. Russian soldiers, who are now better equipped, are progressing quickly. In fact, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky sought help from his Western allies on Monday, asking them to allow Kyiv to attack the enemy with the wide-range weapons it has been provided with.
According to the head of EU diplomacy, the lifting of restrictions would remove the 'sanctuary' that the Russian army benefits from deep on its lands, in order to reach Ukrainian targets. According to Mr. Borrel once again, the lifting of sactions would also 'advance peace efforts', a matter that will be put on the table on August 29 in Brussels (Belgium) during a meeting of EU foreign ministers.
