Mac OS 14 Sonoma: What's New

Mac OS 14 Sonoma is the latest version of Apple's operating system for Mac computers. It was announced at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June 2023 and released to the public in December 2023. Mac OS 14 Sonoma is named after a wine-producing region in California, following the tradition of naming Mac OS versions after landmarks in the state.

Mac OS 14 Sonoma introduces several new features and improvements to the Mac experience. Some of the highlights include:

  • A redesigned Safari browser with a compact tab bar, customizable start page, and tab groups.
  • A new Focus mode that lets you choose which notifications and apps you want to see at different times of the day.
  • A Universal Control feature that lets you use a single mouse and keyboard to control multiple Macs and iPads.
  • A redesigned FaceTime app with spatial audio, portrait mode, and SharePlay, which lets you watch movies, listen to music, and play games with your friends over FaceTime.
  • A new Shortcuts app that lets you create and run custom automations on your Mac.
  • A revamped Maps app with interactive 3D views, detailed city guides, and immersive walking directions.
  • A new Live Text feature that lets you copy, paste, and translate text from photos and images.
  • A new AirPlay to Mac feature that lets you stream audio and video from your iPhone or iPad to your Mac.
